IGUELDO vessel upgraded with a hybrid propulsion system supplied by MAIN SOLUTIONS

After a 5 month stop, at Cardama Shipyard (Vigo), the trawler vessel IGUELDO (MARFRIO company) sails now towards the Falkland Islands to start the fishing season.

Among all the repair works that were performed to the trawler, the main one to be highlighted is the replacement of the main diesel engine and the entire shaft line. A new hybrid PTI-PTO propulsion system was installed. The system incorporates a shaft generator connected to the vessels through an AFE frequency converter, which allows the propeller to operate at variable RPM, maintaining the generation at fixed frequency. Moreover, the vessel can operate in PTI electric propulsion mode, ideal at low speed and emergency situations, as an alternative to the main diesel engine.

The main advantages of a PTI-PTO hybrid system are:

▪️ Better operation dynamic, specially at low speed
▪️ Better efficiency of the entire system
▪️ More eco-friendly

MAIN SOLUTIONS has participated in the retrofit project supplying the following equipment:

▪️ AFE frequency converter, 1.100 kW
▪️ Asynchronous shaft generator, for PTI-PTO at variable speed operation, 1.100 kW
▪️ Synchronous shaft generator, for PTO at fixed speed operation, 1.100 kW
▪️ Main switchboard 400 Vac and power management system (PMS)
▪️ Integrated automation, control and alarm system
▪️ ECR console
▪️ Control system for the fishing winch
